When something doesn't work, you want to fix it. That applies to your own body, too. If you try the usual means and it doesn't solve the problem, you probably start looking for a different method.
Most people who try Rolfing Structural Integration do so at the suggestion of a friend who had a lot of success with this technique solving their nagging problem.
Generally, people get come to my clinic because of pain: back pain, neck pain, knee pain, etc. But I can help with a range of issues-from acute to chronic-including soft tissue pain, postural issues, stress and even aesthetics.
Structural Integration is a series of progressive sessions, usually an hour in length, that focus on eliminating any immediate symptoms while addressing the underlying causes. You lie on a low, wide table dressed in your clothes, and I apply pressure on specific areas, waiting for the tissue to release.
This slow and precise sculpturing of the body's soft tissue (muscles and fascia - a form of connective tissue) allows the body to relax on a deep level. Over the course of the typical ten sessions, the body will often straighten, become taller, loosen and generally feel much better.
I also educate my clients so they do not recreate their problems, and they learn how to enhance the changes of Structural Integration. Many of today's problems stem from past injuries, or fighting gravity with flawed postural patterns. I can help you unlearn past limiting behaviors, and learn behaviors that are more efficient. Not the same as deep tissue massage.
My quality of touch is unique. I "connect" (touch) with the tissue (muscles) and determine what depth and movement is needed to get the area to release. Often people watching say it looks like I am not even moving...but my clients feel movement under the surface deep within their body. The touch (pressure) can range from almost hovering above the area ( broken bones - client in extreme pain - or touchy) to hard sustained pressure to override an area. The clients are in control of the session - I will never cause excessive pain as I ask the client to warn me if I even get close to what they do not like (although most times I can sense this and back off before it is of concern). This is my version of deep tissue massage.
Your feet are the foundation to your body. Having proper feet will aid the rest of the body in better functioning and posture.
Having correct arches and fully functioning feet is the goal of our Reflexology. Arches are to move up and down giving an undulation to our walk. If you use orthotics to provide the proper arches you create stiffness and stop the foot from working properly.
I see clients that after getting the orthotics, their feet feel better, but the problem is moved into their knees, hips, back or neck, not fixing - just moving the problem.
I have helped clients with mild to severe foot problems, even getting rid of wearing their orthotics.
My version of "on site chair massage" consists of loosening of the spinal column, shoulders, and neck. Starting superficially and then working deeper, paying attention to those areas that need it. Without being told I can find all the spots that are bothering you as well as others that you didn't know you had....you will be amazed!
I have work with animals from dogs to horses.
